The Crisafulli Government has held a forum to listen to the Mackay community about their concerns surrounding antisocial behaviour in the CBD.

Representatives from local government, business and other key stakeholders have gathered to share personal experiences and important issues impacting the local community.

Premier David Crisafulli, alongside Member for Mackay Nigel Dalton, hosted the Central Queensland workshop, which was designed to understand the local issues and impacts to the community from antisocial behaviour, and importantly, drive solutions and responsive actions.

10 years of decline under Labor meant antisocial behaviour and community outrage soared across Mackay, after the former Government weakened laws and removed consequences for actions.

After 10 months, the Crisafulli Government is delivering on the promise to restore safety where you live with more police, better resourced courts, effective early intervention and rehabilitation.

Premier David Crisafulli said the workshop was an important step in making Mackay safer and ensuring the community's concerns were listened to.

"Antisocial behaviour has been allowed to spiral out of control for too long in Mackay but we are committed to restoring safety where you live," Premier Crisafulli said.

"Businesses should be able to operate without being impacted by antisocial behaviour and the Mackay CBD should be a safe place for shoppers, families and tourists.

"For too long Mackay wasn't given a voice – but today we are here to listen to the Mackay community so we can deliver the change needed to make this region safer for everyone."

Member for Mackay Nigel Dalton said he was working to make Mackay safer.

"We're hosting this forum to help drive solutions to these behaviours because for too long Queenslanders have been living in fear, after 10 years of decline under the former Labor Government," Mr Dalton said.

"Our local community and businesses have been clear about the need for action, and today's workshop is a step forward in identifying solutions tailored to our region.

"I'm optimistic that by working together and leaning on local knowledge, we can develop strategies that make Mackay's public spaces safer and more enjoyable for everyone."
