Four charged with fraud offences in North Sydney

Three Malaysian Nationals and a Singapore National will face court today on fraud charges following a gaming scam in North Sydney in April, NSW Police say.

About 7am on Wednesday 19 April 2017, a 55-year-old woman attended a hotel on Blue Road, North Sydney, where she alleges three men, aged 68, 56, and 34, and a 58-year-old woman, drugged her and obtained $50,000.

The woman attended North Sydney Police Station and reported the incident to police.

Officers attached to Harbourside Local Area Command commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, officers attended the hotel on Blue Street, North Sydney and arrested three men and woman about 9am on Thursday 1 June 2017.

During a search, officers located and seized items believed related to the scam including mobile phones, US currency and gambling paraphernalia.

They were taken back to North Sydney Police Station where they were charged with dishonestly obtain financial advantage and participate in criminal group contributing to criminal activity.

All four were refused bail and are due to appear at Manly Local Court today.

Police are continuing with their inquiries into the incident.
