Frankston Hospital To Deliver Better Care And Local Jobs

VIC Premier

The Victorian Government is getting on with the massive $562 million expansion of the Frankston Hospital – to provide world-class healthcare for local families and create hundreds of jobs in Melbourne’s south-east.

The project will be delivered as a public-private partnership with a search for a consortium to deliver the project now underway.

An Expression of Interest period is now open – the start of a competitive process to secure a partner for the design, construction, finance and maintenance of the project.

The redevelopment will provide a huge boost for the region and transform services – delivering capacity for an additional 120 beds, two new operating theatres, 13 new emergency department beds, new oncology facilities and dedicated space for enhanced mental health services. A new main entrance and the consolidation of services from across the campus will improve access for patients and visitors.

Around 3,000 babies a year are born at Frankston Hospital. With more young families moving to Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula, the redevelopment will also deliver expanded women’s and children’s services. This includes new obstetrics, maternity and paediatric wards and a women’s clinic and a special care nursery.

Over recent months, the Government has sought feedback from the surrounding community about the services that are important to them and their families, ensuring the redevelopment will respond to the increased and changing health care needs of the community.

The project will boost the local economy and create up to 1,700 jobs from construction and new job opportunities for healthcare workers.

Preliminary site works at Frankston Hospital, including geotechnical investigations, were completed in July. Construction of the new tower is expected to be completed in late 2024.

It’s part of the Victorian Government’s $7 billion pipeline of health infrastructure – the largest building program in the state’s history.

As stated by Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos

“Whilst the coronavirus fight continues, we’re still continuing to deliver important hospital projects across the state. This redevelopment will transform Frankston Hospital and ensure local families have the best services they need.”

As stated by Member for Frankston Paul Edbrooke

“This major expansion will create hundreds of jobs for the people of Frankston – giving local families more employment opportunities and world-class healthcare, closer to home.”

As stated by Member for Carrum Sonya Kilkenny

“The redevelopment of Frankston Hospital is such an exciting project for the community, and we thank everyone who has come forward and provided feedback to help shape this significant investment in Melbourne’s south-east.”
