Fraudulent vaccination certificate - man charged

Morley Police commenced an investigation after a man was reported allegedly using a fraudulent COVID-19 vaccination certificate to gain entry to various licensed premises throughout the Perth metropolitan area.

During this investigation it was determined that about 5.45pm on Tuesday 8 February 2022, a man attended a licensed premise located on Riverside Road in East Fremantle where staff asked the man to provide identification and a current vaccination certificate (Proof of Vaccination Directions No 5).

It will be alleged the man had sourced a fake electronic vaccination certificate which he had stored on his mobile phone and he used this fake certificate to gain entry into the premises. It will be further alleged the man posted photographs on his social media account showing his deliberate breach of entry conditions.

On 8 March 2022, police executed a search warrant at the man's home in Tuart Hill. It is alleged during the search police located and seized Cannabis, Cannabis plants, prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia.

A 38-year-old man from Tuart Hill has been charged with:-

• Induce Person to Abstain from a Lawful Act by Fraud;

• Failed to Comply with a Direction;

• Possess Prohibited Drug;

• Unlawfully Possess a Controlled or Prescription Drug; and

• Possess Drug Paraphernalia.

He is due to appear before the Fremantle Magistrates Court on 5 April 2022.
