City of Darwin is pleased to continue its partnership with Pawsitive K9 Behaviour to deliver additional workshops to help residents better understand the needs of their pets and correct nuisance behaviours.
A workshop for noise phobic dogs will take place on Wednesday 21 May, followed by a workshop focused on aggressive behaviours on Wednesday 28 May 2025.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the workshops aimed to improve dogs' physical wellbeing and demeanour, as well as educating owners on how best to care for their pets.
"We are pleased to be able to provide free workshops to help identify common canine behavioural issues and implement practical, calming strategies at home," Mr Vatskalis said.
"Whether your dog panics during fireworks or displays more challenging behaviours such as nipping or aggression, these informative, one-hour sessions will provide tools to better understand and support your pets.
"The workshop will help owners ensure their dogs are safe and comfortable at home, as well as empowering owners with tools and knowledge to create a calmer environment for their pets."
"Owning a pet brings many benefits, however there are also responsibilities when it comes to pet ownership, and we encourage everyone to do the right thing to ensure the wellbeing of their pets and our community," he said.
The Noise Phobia in Dogs workshop will help owners recognise the signs of noise phobia and implement proven calming strategies, while the Managing Aggressive Behaviours session will help owners understand and avoid triggers for aggression, as well as providing guidance on how to use effective leash
handling and muzzle training techniques.
The workshops are human-only and are suitable for new and experienced pet owners, offering actionable insights in a relaxed, informative setting.
