Free Guide To Safer Boating For Busselton And Dunsborough

A new safe boating guide for waters between Busselton and Dunsborough is now available to skippers.

Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) Director of Waterways Safety Management Graeme Meinema said the free Busselton to Dunsborough Boating Guide featured key safety information for the busiest and most popular boating locations in Geographe Bay.

"From a quick read of the guide, skippers are better prepared to navigate the local waters and will know the safety equipment requirements for their area of operation," Mr Meinema said.

Previously, Geographe Bay was included in a combined guide covering Bunbury and Busselton. The refreshed Bunbury Boating Guide now includes additional information about the Collie River and Leschenault Estuary, highlights the speed limits and reinforces personal water craft (PWC) restricted zones for the greater Bunbury area.

Mr Meinema said the new Busselton guide focused on high activity areas giving skippers more detailed information for safe navigation at boat ramps and water ski areas and, following feedback from stakeholders, we have featured the waters around the very popular Busselton Jetty highlighting the speed limits and PWC restricted areas.

"In the lead up to the summer boating season Department officers will be on the water promoting the boating guide and taking the opportunity to share their boating knowledge and answer questions about safe boating," Mr Meinema said.

The guides are relevant to new skippers to the area and also serve to educate more experienced local boat owners.

The Department uses funds from recreational boat registration fees to produce an extensive boating guide series covering most popular boating locations along the WA coast and also inland waterways. All the guides are at Transport.wa.gov.au or available via Deckee .

It's recommended skippers download the guide for easy reference - especially when entering unfamiliar waters.
