Today (10 September 2025) marks World Suicide Prevention Day to reflect on those we have lost to suicide and how we can support those who may be struggling. If you or someone you know needs help, free support is available by contacting:

    24/7 national crisis support phone line operated by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

  • Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800

    24/7 national online and phone counselling for young people aged 5 to 25 years.

  • Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467

    Nationwide service providing telephone and online counselling to anyone affected by suicide.

  • StandBy Support After Suicide on 1300 727 247

    Face to face and/or telephone support for people bereaved or impacted by suicide, at any time in their life.

  • Roses in The Ocean's Peer CARE Companion Warmline on 1800 77 7337

    A safe place for people with lived experience of suicide bereavement to connect with others with a similar experience.

Mental health challenges can affect anyone, and reaching out for help can be daunting. Medicare Mental Health services are a good place to start, offering free and confidential support to anyone in Australia, with no referral or diagnosis required.

The services can help individuals who are feeling overwhelmed, stressed or worried about themselves or someone they care about - whether that is a family member, friend or colleague.

Medicare Mental Health services are available in person, over the phone or online. Individuals can connect in the way that best supports their needs.

Free support services available:

  • Medicare Mental Health Centres

    Centres provide a welcoming place where everyone can access free mental health information, services and supports from qualified mental health professionals. No appointment or referral is needed.

  • Medicare Mental Health Phone Service

    The free Medicare Mental Health Phone Service is available Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm (excluding public holidays). Call 1800 595 212 from anywhere in Australia to speak with a trained professional.

  • Kids Hubs

    Medicare Mental Health Kids Hubs offer a safe and welcoming space for children aged 12 years and under experiencing social and mental health challenges. Families and carers can also access free support and guidance.

Whether someone is reaching out for the first time, or they've experienced mental health challenges in the past, everyone is welcome.
