Free parking in 2hr spaces extended

Townsville City Council has today voted to extend free parking in designated 2hr parking spots across the central business district through to 30 June 2022.

The initiative started on 15 February 2022 as a way for Council to support CBD traders who continued to struggle following the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Acting Mayor Mark Molachino said the extension of free parking in designated 2hr carparking spaces further demonstrated the Council's commitment to supporting these businesses.

"Council engages with CBD businesses regularly and we know that many are still doing it tough," Cr Molachino said.

"This is one lever we can pull to support these businesses and I am pleased that Council has today voted in favour of extending this initiative."

Two-hour time limits in designated 2hr spaces will continue to be enforced, as will other parking rules across the city.

"Council will continue to collect data during the extended period to use when considering CBD parking strategy in the future," Cr Molachino said.
