Free Solar Info Session Energizes Wollongong

Now's your chance to ask all the questions you have about powering your home with renewable energy.

On Wednesday 6 May 2026, Wollongong City Council along with ShineHub, are hosting a free Solar and Battery Bulk Discounts Community Event as part of the Community Renewables Program .

Held at Dapto Ribbonwood Centre, the event will provide an opportunity for residents and small businesses to find out about the program, explore the various offers and discounts available, view the products (panels, inverters and batteries) and chat with solar experts.

The program also offers residents the option to participate in the Virtual Power Plant (VPP), which can further reduce energy bills and earn extra money.

"Many participants from 2025 told us how they benefited from this event and gave them the confidence to make the right choice for their household," Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown said.

"The session is focused on providing accessible information to our community. How you manage your home's electricity affects your day-to-day and finances, so we want to make sure people are given all the options clearly and be secure in their decision.

"There'll be a detailed presentation from qualified ShineHub representatives who will walk you through the program and help address any curiosities or concerns you may have. You'll also have the opportunity to chat with them after about your specific questions or concerns.

"Council staff will also attend to share our long-term plans about renewable energy for our city and the steps we're taking to help achieve this, including the rollout of the Community Renewables program.

"I encourage you to come along and walk away with knowing more about solar and sustainable living."

The event is part of Round 2 of the Community Renewables Program, which is supported by Illawarra Shoalhaven Joint Organisation (ISJO), and delivered by ShineHub.

Households across the Wollongong, Kiama, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven local government areas are eligible for the program. By coming together, councils are able to negotiate a bulk purchase price, which can then be passed on to participating residents.
