Free trees for new homes

Cessnock City Council will again be giving away trees to new home builders, who have built during the 2021/2022 Financial Year, to help green the Cessnock Local Government Area.

The give-away will include a range of plants from ground covers, like Star Jasmine, through to shrubs, including Coastal Rosemary, Bottlebrush and Gardenia.

Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal said the program was a great way to make a start on establishing a garden for new dwellings.

"Trees provide shade and create habitat for animals, they also beautify our local government area," Mayor Suvaal said.

"I would encourage anyone who is eligible to take advantage of this offer to get a free tree in the ground."

For eligible households, registrations are required. Application forms are available at Council's Administration Building, Vincent Street, Cessnock, or via Council's website at www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/tree giveaway program.

Completed application forms must be received no later than 5pm Friday 9 September 2022.

The Tree Giveaway collection day will be on Saturday 24 September 2022.
