Residents are invited to discover the beauty hidden in everyday objects at Alan Baker Art Gallery's newest exhibition, Compositions: Capturing Still Life.

The exhibition celebrates the enduring appeal of still life, showcasing how artists use colour, texture, light and form to transform familiar objects into captivating works of art.

Featuring still life works by local artist Alan Baker alongside contemporary Australian and local artists, Compositions: Capturing Still Life creates a visual dialogue between different artistic styles and approaches, highlighting the creativity and observation behind this timeless genre.

From traditional paintings and drawings to sculpture, textiles and ceramics, the exhibition explores the many ways artists interpret and reimagine everyday subjects, encouraging visitors to see the world around them from a fresh perspective.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the exhibition provided an opportunity for the community to connect with art and celebrate the creativity of local artists.

"Compositions: Capturing Still Life showcases the incredible talent of artists while reminding us that beauty can be found in the simplest of things," she said.

"Alan Baker Art Gallery continues to provide a wonderful space for residents and visitors to experience diverse exhibitions, discover new perspectives and celebrate the arts within our community."

This beautiful new exhibition isn't the only thing at Alan Baker Art Gallery worth getting excited about. The gallery continues to offer a range of creative programs and opportunities for the community to connect, create and be inspired, including Art Play - a free monthly drop-in program designed for families who love to make and experiment together.

Held once a month on Sundays from 11am to 2pm, Art Play invites children, parents and carers to explore hands-on art activities at their own pace in a relaxed and welcoming environment. The program encourages imagination, connection and creative confidence, with participants able to simply drop in, stay as long as they like and create something special together.

For those who prefer to get lost in a good book, ABAG Book Club provides a welcoming space for readers to come together on the fourth Thursday of every month. The book club invites participants to share their thoughts, discover new authors and enjoy lively conversations in a relaxed setting. Whether you're an avid reader or looking for inspiration to pick up a new book, ABAG Book Club offers the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow book lovers and explore fresh perspectives.

Visitors can also explore the Mini Art Market, held on the second Saturday of each month in the surrounds of the Gallery. Featuring unique handmade pieces from local creatives, the market provides the perfect opportunity to discover something special, support local artists and take home a one-of-a-kind creation.

Compositions: Capturing Still Life is on display at Alan Baker Art Gallery until the end of November. For more information about the exhibition, and other initiatives and events at Alan Baker Art Gallery, visit camden.nsw.gov.au/cultural-development-and-arts/alan-baker-art-gallery-at-macaria
