Funding Boost Unveiled for WA Heritage Protection

  • More than $1.2 million funding to support conservation and celebration of WA's State-registered heritage places
  • Grants now available for conservation works, planning and documentation, and community-led heritage projects
  • Applications open today and close Monday, 4 August 2025

Applications are now open for the 2025-26 round of the Western Australian Heritage Grants Program, with over $1.2 million available to support the conservation and activation of State-registered heritage places.

Now in its 28th year, the program continues to invest in the protection of Western Australia's unique heritage, with a focus on helping private owners, local governments, businesses and community organisations to plan and deliver heritage projects.

Funding is available through two streams including:

  • the State Heritage Grants stream supports conservation works up to $50,000, documentation projects up to $16,000 and major conservation initiatives with up to $100,000 in matched funding; and
  • the Community Heritage Grants stream supports projects that promote, interpret or engage the public with heritage places, with grants up to $10,000 for minor projects and up to $30,000 for major initiatives.

The Grants program also funds up to 80 per cent of the cost of contracting a heritage professional to oversee conservation works - ensuring projects meet best-practice standards and are built to last.

In the 2024-25 round a record-breaking 86 applications were received, and 39 successful projects were awarded grants, ranging from conservation repairs to the historic Mead Homestead in Leda, to a 3D digital mapping project of historic shipwrecks off Rottnest Island.

As stated by Heritage Minister Simone McGurk:

"Western Australia's heritage places are rich with stories, culture and identity - and they deserve to be celebrated and protected for future generations.

"Through this program, we are continuing to partner with owners, community groups and heritage professionals to conserve the places that shape our towns, cities and regions.

"I encourage anyone with a passion for heritage to explore the options available and apply for the grants program.

"Whether you are conserving a historic building or bringing new stories to light through community engagement, this program can help bring your heritage projects to life."
