The Australian Government is helping people with intellectual disability take greater control over their finances.
A one-off grant opportunity of $1.42 million will be provided to Inclusion Australia over two years to co-design practical and accessible resources to assist with supported financial decision-making.
Supported decision-making helps people, particularly those with intellectual disability, to make their own decisions with assistance from trusted supporters.
The resources will boost capacity and respect autonomy by providing information, guidance and identifying those who can offer support.
The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability highlighted the need for people with disability to have more access to support for decision-making, including about finances.
Inclusion Australia is the national peak body for people with an intellectual disability.
The grant will start in May 2026 and end on 30 June 2027. It is funded under the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing's National Disability Advocacy Program.
