Applications are now open for up to $1,000 for Bass Coast Shire Council's 2022 Building Disability Inclusive Businesses and Community Organisations Grant.
This funding is available to businesses and community organisations to implement a project or initiative to improve access for people with disability, as customers, visitors, members or employees.
This is part of Council's Access, Equity and Inclusion in Bass Coast Plan 2021-25. This Plan outlines the key actions Council will undertake in partnership with the community, to address the priority access and inclusion issues identified by community members with disability, their families and carers, and service providers in Bass Coast.
Examples of potential projects could include:
- improvements to physical access such as ramps, signage, accessible toilets, contrasting nosing strips on each step for stairs, colour contrasting paint for wayfinding.
- engage a consultant to deliver Disability Awareness Training at your next team or staff meeting
- provide information in different formats, such as large print menus for people with vision impairment
- take part in a Communication Access Assessment to become more accessible for people with complex communication needs
- develop a Disability Action Plan to improve access and inclusion for all
- any other project or initiative that you think will help people with a disability better access or be included in your business or organisation more seamlessly.
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan said Council is committed to improving access and inclusion for people with disability who visit, live in or work in the Shire.
"I would thank the Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee, who were instrumental in creating the Access, Equity and Inclusion in Bass Coast Plan," Cr Whelan said.
"We believe the Plan will make a meaningful difference to the lives of people with disability, their families and carers.
"Access for all creates opportunities for more people to be more involved in community life and to reach their unique potential," Cr Whelan concluded.
Applications close at 5.00pm on Thursday, 30 June.
