Communities flourish when local businesses and organizations have the infrastructure and resources they need to attract visitors to our rural areas. The Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), is investing to support tourism growth in Fundy-St. Martins.
Today, Wayne Long, Member of Parliament for Saint John-Rothesay, announced an investment of $620,000 through ACOA's Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) for Fundy-St. Martins. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.
The Honourable Tammy Scott-Wallace, Minister of Tourism, Heritage and Culture also announced contributions of $480,000 on behalf of the Province of New Brunswick.
The project will support the construction of an amphitheatre and improvements to key tourism infrastructure, including the revitalization of the community lighthouse tourism centre. These enhancements will allow Fundy-St. Martins to better welcome and direct visitors to businesses and services, address traffic safety issues and improve accessibility in support of the tourism industry in the area.
Atlantic Canada has the wind in its sails. In March, the Public Policy Forum published a report that confirms that the region is poised for exponential growth. Today's announcement highlights the Government of Canada's commitment to build on that momentum by strengthening our communities, creating new opportunities, and setting the stage for a strong, sustainable future.
