Further investment planned for Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour

  • New pen holder facility planned for Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour
  • Project adds to multimillion-dollar Jetty 3 replacement and $5.9 million electrical upgrade
  • Tenders called for initial site works
  • A tender has been released to build a dedicated pen holder facility at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, which will benefit locals and visitors in Fremantle.

The tender for the project's initial site works will see the southern land-backed wharf along Capo D'Orlando Drive extended to provide space for a new building, providing greater amenities at the wharf.

The building will include pen holder bathrooms, laundry and new public toilets. The initial site works will also deliver greater pedestrian improvements, including a dedicated pedestrian path, services and lighting upgrades, and landscaping to provide greater amenity in the area and increase safety for users and visitors to the harbour.

The project adds to the multimillion-dollar replacement of the nearby Jetty 3, which will start later this year, and the planned $5.9 million electrical upgrade at the harbour announced as part of the WA Recovery Plan in 2020.

Site works for the pen holder facility are expected to commence next year when a further tender for its design and construction is advertised. Pen holders can expect access to the new facility from early 2024.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"This project will provide a modern, purpose-built facility for existing pen holders and those thinking of penning their vessels, attracting more people to use the harbour.

"The new amenities and state-of-the-art floating pen system will provide a better experience for users and benefit the local community."

As stated by Fremantle MLA Simone McGurk:

"Fremantle is host to a huge boating community and this investment will increase the amenities available for boat users south of the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour.

"This project will also support local jobs and engage local sub-contractors to provide a boost to the Fremantle economy."
