- $1.67 million to support regional athletes and coaches in 2026-27
- Regional talent development and travel assistance programs to continue across WA
- Program helping athletes access high-quality coaching and sports specialists
- Cook Labor Government committed to supporting Western Australia's talent development
Regional athletes and coaches will be able to access training, development and competition opportunities closer to home, with a further $1.67 million in funding committed to the Regional Athlete Support Program (RASP).
Funded through Royalties for Regions, RASP supports talented athletes and coaches living in regional Western Australia.
RASP includes the delivery of the Regional Talent Development Network (RTDN) and Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme (ATSS), which help gifted regional athletes develop skills and progress through recognised sporting pathways.
The RTDN grants program supports regional academies, talent development centres and pathway programs across regional WA, working in partnership with State sporting associations to provide access to coaching, sports science and athlete support services, while also supporting the development of regional coaches.
The ATSS assists athletes aged 13 to 21 years with travel and accommodation costs associated with attending recognised competitions that form part of their sport's talent pathway.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Our regions are home to some incredible sporting talent, and we are proud to be helping these athletes access high-quality training and development opportunities.
"This program is helping reduce the barriers regional athletes face when pursuing opportunities in their chosen sport.
"It also provides valuable support for coaches and sporting organisations that play an important role in developing talent across regional WA."
As stated by Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:
"This investment will strengthen pathways for regional athletes and coaches, helping them access the support needed to compete at the highest levels.
"Through Royalties for Regions, the Cook Labor Government is ensuring distance is less of a challenge for regional Western Australians and providing greater opportunities to pursue their sporting goals."
