Premier Mark McGowan and Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery joined Mount Lawley MLA Simon Millman at Mount Lawley Senior High School to turn the sod, marking the start of construction to $4 million worth of upgrades to the school.
A key McGowan Government election commitment, the upgrades include a new two-storey building providing opportunities for students in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), a state-of-the-art engineering workshop, two science laboratories and two general purpose classrooms.
The upgrades support the school's STEM programs, preparing students for jobs of the future, and will include a Mechatronics Studio where students will use the latest laser printing technology and 3D computer-aided design.
The new facilities will be constructed by BADGE Constructions and will support local jobs.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
"It's great to be back at Mount Lawley Senior High School to turn the sod to mark the start of construction on school upgrades.
"Not only will these upgrades support local construction jobs, when completed the new facilities will provide a place for our students to prepare for jobs of the future in the STEM industry."
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
"This is an exciting day for the entire Mount Lawley Senior High School community as we mark the beginning of an important development in STEM education.
"We want every student in Western Australia to have access to the very best learning environments, and are committed to developing new and improved facilities in our schools."

"Upgrading Mount Lawley Senior High School was one of my key election commitments and I'm proud to be delivering on this promise.
"When complete, these will be state-of-the-art facilities, that will allow local Mount Lawley students to learn STEM subjects and be placed to take advantage of the jobs of the future."
