Gallery's Strategic Plan: Community-Driven, Now Ready

Tweed Shire Council

The Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre's draft Strategic Plan 2025–2028 is now on public exhibition. The plan reinforces the Gallery's role as a leading regional gallery and cultural leader, and gives the community a chance to see how their voices have shaped its future direction.

The draft Strategic Plan sets out a bold and inclusive vision for the Gallery's next chapter, shaped by what the community, cultural sector and key support organisations have already shared in early consultation. It identifies 4 strategic goals focused on artistic excellence, learning and engagement, access and participation, and long-term sustainability.

Months of community engagement, including visitor and online surveys, stakeholder conversations and feedback from the arts sector have helped shape the strategy. As a result, it reflects the values, needs and aspirations of the Tweed's creative community and rises to meet the challenges facing the sector.

Gallery Director Ingrid Hedgcock said early-stage consultation was clear that the community and arts sector want a Gallery that elevates artist practice, amplifies First Nations voices, and creates inclusive pathways so everyone can see themselves reflected in its story.

"They also emphasised the need for stability in a sector facing increasing pressures, and this plan answers that call," Ms Hedgcock said.

"It shows that the Gallery can be bold, inclusive and resilient by being intentional and focused about what we set out to achieve together, cementing our position as a leading regional gallery that reflects the values and aspirations of our community and arts sector.

"This public exhibition is an opportunity for the community to see how their voices have shaped the plan and to confirm we're heading in the right direction," she said.

Manager, Inclusive and Creative Communities Shannon Carruth agrees that community feedback was vital in development of the draft plan and it was clear locals are proud of having such a world-class cultural facility in their backyard.

"We share the community's pride in our Gallery and are excited about the future. This draft Strategic Plan reflects the Gallery's role as a cultural leader in our region and beyond over the next 3-years. It's about much more than exhibitions — it's about creating a sustainable, inclusive and inspiring space where art connects people, ideas and place," Ms Carruth said.

"Through reviewing the plan, the community can help us align bold aspirations with sustainable practices, securing the Gallery's role as a cultural leader into the future."

Public exhibition dates: Monday 1 December to Wednesday 28 January 2026
