Gang Crime Squad arrests after St Albans stabbing

Detectives from the Gang Crime Squad have arrested six people this week following a series of incidents including a stabbing in St Albans last weekend that left a man with life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services were called following a collision and armed car-jacking at the intersection of Taylors Road and Kerrison Avenue, St Albans about 2pm on Sunday, 5 December.

It's alleged the offending vehicle has collided with a second vehicle at the intersection and the occupants of the first vehicle then tried unsuccessfully to gain access to that car.

The group then headed further along Kerrison Avenue and subsequently car-jacked a vehicle occupied by a lone female driver.

A 69-year-old St Albans man attempted to intervene and was stabbed a number of times.

He was conveyed to hospital with life threatening injuries and remains in a serious condition.

The occupants of the vehicle involved in the collision were also conveyed to hospital for treatment.

The female driver of the vehicle involved in the car jacking was not physically injured.

On Monday, 6 December detectives from the Gang Crime Squad, with support from Wayward Taskforce, Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit, North West Metro Division 2 Divisional Response Unit and the Critical Incident Response Team, executed search warrants at properties in Truganina, Deer Park, Meadow Heights, Derrimut and Taylors Hill.

Four men were arrested as follows:

• A 19-year-old Meadow Heights man has been charged with aggravated car jacking, assault and affray;

• A 19-year-old Derrimut man has been charged with with aggravated carjacking, intentionally cause serious injury, and attempted aggravated burglary;

• A 21-year-old Taylors Hill man has been charged with possess drug of dependence; and

• A 21-year-old Deer Park man was interviewed and released pending further enquiries.

The two 19-year-old men have been remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 19 March, 2022.

The Taylors Hill man was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 5 May, 2022.

Police also seized a number of items from the addresses including weapons, cash, stolen property and drugs.

Earlier today, the Gang Crime Squad executed four warrants in Tarneit (3) and Wyndham Vale.

A 15-year-old Wyndham Vale boy and a 16-year-old Tarneit boy were both arrested.

Items were also located which are believed to be linked to an aggravated burglary at a property in the Melbourne CBD on 5 December.

Both are being interviewed by police and are expected to be charged with aggravated car jacking and affray.

They are likely to face a children's court later today.

The investigation into these incidents remains ongoing.
