The City of Ryde is pleased to announce that the sports field at Gannan Park has now reopened, marking the completion of the final stage of an exciting upgrade at the popular North Ryde park.

The upgrades include an expanded playground, a loop pathway/scooter track, two fitness nodes, relocated and enclosed cricket nets, an expanded bush regeneration area, sports field lighting, garden bed enhancements and new pathway connections.

A new amenities building includes two unisex change rooms, public toilets with an accessible toilet, a canteen with an accessible servery window, a referee/umpire change room and multiple storage areas.

The upgrade was completed following community feedback received on the Gannan Park and McCauley Park Masterplan, which was adopted by Council in July 2019. Gannan and McCauley Parks are 4.51ha in combined size and situated on a former quarry, with steep embankments on two sides and residential properties on all boundaries.

The upgrade was made possible thanks to a $2,499,000 Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund grant from the NSW Office of Sport.

City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown said maintenance, upgrades and additions to Council's impressive open space portfolio remained one of his key priorities as the City's density and population continues to expand.

"The City of Ryde is committed to ensuring all families, park patrons and sporting user groups have access to safe, accessible and high-quality parks and sporting facilities," he said.

"We have responded to our community's wishes with the remarkable transformation of Gannan Park, which is now fully complete and available for local families and sporting teams to utilise and enjoy.

"We are also moving ahead with the significant upgrade of Blenheim Park, which is expected to be completed by July 2027, and the Have Your Say for the Ryde Park Draft Masterplan – which proposes major improvements there over the next 15 years – is now open for submissions until 27 April 2026.

"Council will continue to work in the best interests of all its residents in striking the right balance between increasing residential development and the necessary infrastructure – particularly open space – that must accompany it."
