Geelong Highway Patrol grab speedsters

Geelong Highway Patrol Unit stopped two separate cars for excessive speed, as well as alcohol and drug offences in the greater Geelong area this week.

A man was detected allegedly speeding at 125km/h in a 100km/h zone on Mill Road, Lara about 4.35pm on Tuesday, 28 July.

The 21-year-old Lara man also provided a positive drug test and will appear at a magistrates' court at a later date charged with traffic offences.

Later that evening, a man with three passengers in the car was intercepted after allegedly speeding at 126km/h in a 60km/h zone on Portarlington Road, Newcomb about 10.10pm.

The 24-year-old Norlane man was also found to be an unlicensed probationary driver and provided a positive preliminary breath test.

A subsequent evidentiary breath test furnished a reading of .128.

The man's vehicle was impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $1027 and he is expected to be charged on summons for drink driving and other traffic related matters.
