Geelong to host Australian Youth Baseball Championships

Geelong will be the major host of the 2020 Australian Youth Baseball Championship, with the event to be split across three Victorian venues from January 10-15.

Baseball Australia has announced that the Geelong Baseball Centre will host the under-16 and under-18 event for the first time since 2013, with games also to be played at Melbourne Ballpark and in Ballarat.

The championships will be held in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong, Baseball Victoria and the Geelong baseball community.

Geelong Baseball Centre hosted the 2018 Australian Women's Championships and is home to Geelong-Korea in the Australian Baseball League.

Japan's Chiba Lotte Marines held pre-season training camps at the venue in 2006 and 2007.

Mayor Bruce Harwood:

Geelong is pleased to be hosting another major baseball event.

We're looking forward to welcoming Australia's best young baseballers and showcasing the international standard facilities at the Geelong Baseball Centre.

We hope the players and spectators will enjoy the tournament, and also get to experience what our region has to offer - particularly our bay and beaches, which are at their best in January.

Michael Crooks, Operations and Participation General Manager, Baseball Australia:

Geelong is a passionate baseball city and we're very excited to bring another event to the region.

Geelong Baseball Centre has hosted a successful women's championship and Geelong-Korea during the ABL season over the past 24 months, and we expect the Youth Championships to be another excellent event.
