The highly anticipated reopening of Georges River Council's library buildings has been announced, with Clive James, Hurstville and Penshurst Libraries open to fully vaccinated community members from today. This follows last month's return of Click and Collect, and the reopening of the return chutes, at the three branches.
Safely reopening on Wednesday 1 December 2021 will be Oatley and South Hurstville Libraries, in compliance with the capacity limits of the NSW Public Health Order (PHO).
With the community's safety as priority, and in line with the PHO, all library staff will be fully vaccinated, and all customers aged 16 and above must provide proof of vaccination to enter the buildings. Additionally, face masks must be worn at all times, by both staff and customers.
When the libraries reopen, Justice of the Peace (JP) services and room bookings will also be available, while the regular library programming will remain online for the rest of the year.
The popular LibraryGO delivery service, which has seen staff deliver to over 1,000 households since September, will continue until all five libraries have reopened. For Georges River residents who are unable to access Council's buildings, LibraryGO provides the opportunity for free, direct delivery of library materials to residents' homes.
Georges River Council General Manager Gail Connolly said, "To ensure the safety of our Georges River community, we have been reopening our libraries in stages.
"We know our community has been eagerly waiting, and we're delighted to be welcoming them back into our library buildings.
"At the same time, I wish to remind the community to continue visiting Georges River Libraries' website to explore the suite of online services that will remain available."
