German Parliament Debates European Human Rights Future

Last month, the German Parliament, the Bundestag, hosted public events where the importance of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Council of Europe was discussed within the framework of the Conventions 75th anniversary.

A conference on 26 March 2026, entitled "75 Jahre Europäische Menschenrechtskonvention: ein europäischer Triumph in Gefahr", brought together some 150 participants from politics, academia, NGOs and associations, along with around 40 students, to examine current challenges and criticisms facing the European human rights system, with a view to identifying and proposing practical solutions.
