IntoWork Australia

Gippsland's Food & Fibre Connect 2 Employment Team Leader and Jobs Victoria Mentor Amanda Gould will share how she overcame adversity and the lessons she's learned in business and life, as part of a free careers session for young women in Morwell on Tuesday, November 18.

The second of AGA's series Women in New Careers (WINC) is aimed at female school leavers and will feature speakers from three key industries in Gippsland – health/social assistance, agriculture, and forestry/fishing - as well as opportunities to meet prospective employers, and workshop personal and career development skills.

Amanda will talk about overcoming personal challenges, not finding her passion until her late 20s and her role with Food & Fibre Gippsland, "I didn't really know what I wanted to do after high school so I want young women to see they don't have to do a job just to have a job, they can have a career too," she said.

"I want young women to know that no matter what that they go through in their life, they can always choose a new path. They could be at the worst stage of their life but there is always people that can help them. It took me a little while with the circumstances in my life but it had to happen for me to get where I am today."

She'll also share her experience as a woman in the employment industry and the highs and lows of her journey, and share strategies to help young women set and reach their goals.

"These events are so important for young women to realise they are not just an afterthought, someone who will raise kids. Women can have a career and achieve things too," she said.

The day will also include valuable insights from employers and industry leaders who are leading the way in breaking down female career progression barriers.

Other topics will also include professional development, hidden job markets, transferrable skills, confidence building, self-promotion/networking, and local support services.

After the workshops people can book a free one-on one career coaching and/or mentoring sessions with trained Career Development Consultants who will work with them to develop a career plan and provide them with strategies to be able to progress with their chosen career path.

The program is being run by AGA, part of the IntoWork Australia Group, in partnership with other businesses in the Group including Mas.

Amanda will talk at the Morwell Italian Australian Sporting Club in Morwell on October 18.

There'll be 12 other sessions across the Gippsland region in different locations, including Bairnsdale at the Mitchell River Tavern on October 17, Warragul at AGA Baw Baw Skills Centre on October 19 and Leongatha LLEN on October 20.
