Girrawheen Disturbance

Joondalup Detectives have charged a 29-year-old man with assaulting two police officers who were responding to a disturbance at a residence in Girrawheen yesterday, Friday 18 September 2020.
About 5:00pm Police were called to a disturbance in Nanovich Avenue. Upon arrival it was established a group of men attended the residence and were still inside. The occupant of the residence requested Police remove the group of men, stating he did not know who they were.
While making enquiries into the identity of the group of men, one of them, who was later identified as a 29-year-old man subject of a Return to Prison Warrant, attempted to leave by climbing over a fence. He was arrested and as he was being placed into a secure police vehicle it will be alleged he punched one male police officer to his head and face several times and punched a second male police officer to his face and gouged at the officer's face with his nails. It will be further alleged he spat on both officers.
One police officer collapsed to the ground and was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital by St John Ambulance. His injuries included bruising, swelling and cuts to his face, forearms and head, including lacerations on his head.
Three men exited the residence and became obstructive towards the attending officers and OC Spray was deployed on one of them - a 33-year-old man.
