Glenorchy police are committed to deterring anti-social behaviour and are encouraging the community to report witnessed incidents.
"Following an increase in anti-social behaviour within the Glenorchy CBD and bus mall areas, Glenorchy Police recently built on their strategy aimed at deterring anti-social behaviour," said Sergeant Amanda Hall.
"The strategy consists of police focusing on problem areas particularly during specific times when large numbers of people including youths are known to congregate."
"The increased high-visibility policing presence focused on anti-social behaviour has deterred the vast majority of would-be offenders," said Sergeant Hall.
Recently, relating to anti-social behaviour offences in the Glenorchy CBD and bus mall area:
- a number of people have been arrested and bailed with conditions preventing them from entering the Glenorchy CBD.
- 56 people have been directed to leave the area and not return within 8 hours.
- 14 people will receive a summons for offences.
- several youths were issued youth caution action notices.
- one person has been charged with breaching bail conditions.
"Glenorchy Police urge community members who have information, including mobile phone footage that shows anti-social behaviour or offences including assault, to share this with police," said Sergeant Hall.
"Police will not tolerate anti-social behaviour within the community and encourage reporting to allow police to investigate promptly."
"Information from the public is vital, both in reducing the offending behaviour, and identifying offenders with the aim of making our public spaces safer for everyone."
