To celebrate the University's upcoming 150th anniversary, a global call has been launched to propel Liverpool's world-class teaching, research and innovation into its definitive next chapter.
As outlined in Liverpool 2031, the University has set out a bold ambition to build on its long-standing strengths in research and education, the quality and scale of its partnerships, and the positive impact it has on people, place and planet.
Through the global recruitment initiative for the 150th Anniversary Chairs, the University seeks to appoint ten outstanding and internationally recognised professors whose research excellence, strategic leadership and global reputation will drive breakthrough discoveries, deepen international partnerships and enhance Liverpool's position on the world stage.
We are looking for leaders who will not only bring with them established and world-leading research, but whose ambitious vision aligns with the University's strengths, as well as national priorities and major funding opportunities.
We are particularly interested in applications for the following priority areas:
- Advanced Materials, including AI-led discovery and autonomous laboratories, manufacturing, biomaterial and biofilms.
- Health and Life Sciences, covering therapeutics, infection, neuroscience and women's health across the translational research pathway.
- Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Digital Technologies, including applications across science, health and the creative economy.
- Clean Energy, Oceans and Maritime Science, including sustainable energy systems and environmental innovation.
- Creative Futures and the Cultural & Creative Economy, including music, film and gaming, with an emphasis on digital innovation and AI.
Vice Chancellor Professor Tim Jones said:
"Our 150th anniversary is not only a moment to celebrate our remarkable history, but also an opportunity to be bold and ambitious for our future. Recruiting for our prestigious 150th Anniversary Chairs will bring outstanding talent to Liverpool, helping us push the boundaries of knowledge, inspire the next generation of researchers and students, and cement our position as a world-leading research-intensive university."
