Sporting clubs, show societies, pool and hall committees and volunteer organisations do great work in the community, but even at the grass roots the right legal and procedural boxes need to be ticked.
Aspiring and experienced community leaders in Corangamite Shire are invited to attend the next instalment in the Community Leadership series: Governance 101.
Council Coordinator Community Development and Engagement Bec Reedman encouraged volunteers to come to an upcoming workshop.
"The free workshop is designed to strengthen the governance capabilities of local organisations and community groups," Ms Reedman said.
"Participants will gain practical insights into the legal obligations of incorporated bodies, and the rights, roles, and responsibilities of members, committee members and office bearers.
"We will also help you understand Model Rules which are a basic template for your association's constitution to make sure you comply with legal requirements.
"Committee structures, the roles of committee members, voting procedures, conflict resolution, and democratic processes are all governed by your constitution so it's important you know where to find them and how to apply them.
"Attendees will also receive access to a suite of useful templates and resources to support effective governance.
"Whether you're new to committee work, considering volunteering, or have years of experience, this workshop offers a valuable opportunity to refresh and expand your governance knowledge.
