You can't manage building site erosion and sediment on an empty stomach, so Lake Macquarie City Council is here to help with an educational breakfast on Wednesday 4 March at Redhead Surf Lifesaving Club.

The free brekky and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) eligible training session will feed hunger and knowledge for local builders and site managers ahead of the upcoming 'Get the Site Right' compliance blitz.

The annual campaign involves compliance inspections to ensure construction sites meet essential environmental protection standards, with an emphasis on run off controls.

Acting Manager Environmental Regulation and Compliance Wes Hain said the event would offer practical tips and tricks to help ensure sites are up to scratch.

"When erosion and sediment controls are lacking on building sites, the fallout can be serious, from polluted creeks to destruction of local habitats and wildlife," he said.

"With more inspections on the way, Council is keen to work alongside builders and contractors to help them avoid costly slip‑ups and play a part in protecting the natural beauty our region is known for."

The educational session will cover erosion and sediment controls, legal responsibilities, Council's expectations for compliance and best practice strategies to minimise environmental impact.

The workshop will include a question-and-answer session, offering a chance for participants to seek advice and share their experiences.

"It's not just about ticking a box or dodging fines, it's about making sure we protect our environment and keep our community safe," Mr Hain said.

The morning is open to site supervisors, project managers and anyone responsible for erosion and sediment control on building sites.

The free breakfast will start from 7am to accommodate working hours.

Spaces are limited and registrations are required via Eventbrite.
