Swan Hill Rural City Council has endorsed more than $40,000 in façade improvement grants, supporting local businesses to refresh their shopfronts and contribute to more vibrant streetscapes across the municipality.
At yesterday's Council Meeting, Councillors endorsed $40,980 in funding for 12 businesses across Swan Hill, Robinvale, Piangil and Lake Boga through Council's Facade Improvement Program.
The grants will leverage approximately $145,000 worth of improvements, representing a significant additional investment by local businesses to improve their properties and town streetscapes.
Mayor Cr Stuart King said the program was a great example of Council and local businesses working together to improve the presentation and appeal of the region's shopping and business areas.
"These grants might be relatively small investments from Council, but they make a noticeable difference to our business precincts.
"Importantly, our investment is helping generate around $145,000 worth of improvements across our municipality, not only in retail areas but also in commercial and industrial areas.
"That means businesses are investing their own money alongside Council funding to improve their premises, which is a fantastic outcome.
"Grant recipients use local trades and suppliers wherever possible, helping ensure the benefits of this investment also flow through our local economy," Cr King said.
The façade grants can support improvements such as painting, signage, awnings and other external works that enhance the appearance of business premises.
Cr King thanked the successful applicants for investing in their businesses and communities.
"Well-presented shopfronts contribute to attractive and welcoming business precincts for locals and visitors alike," he said.
"It's great to see businesses across Swan Hill, Robinvale, Piangil and Lake Boga putting their hands up to make improvements, and Council is pleased to support them," he concluded.
