The Cook Government's Better Beginnings Community Grants Program, through the State Library of Western Australia, is back with a pool of $200,000 available to public libraries and community groups.
The annual grants program supports recipients to deliver early reading and literacy activities tailored to their communities.
Since 2021, the State Library has awarded over $800,000 in grants to successful applicants across the State.
Play Matters Australia was awarded funding in 2024 to produce dual language resources and audio recordings that promote key parenting messages (play, praise and consistency) and encourage in-home play and reading activities.
Let's Playby Karen Tyrrell has now been translated into Vietnamese, Urdu and Arabic. These playbooks will be launched today at the State Library.
Applications for the Better Beginnings Community Grants Program are now open until Friday, 26 September 2025.

As stated by Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk:
"Better Beginnings grants help deliver early reading and aims to connect families to reading and sharing stories with young children from birth.
"Developing resources in multiple languages ensures that all Western Australian families can share the joy of reading together.
"We welcome applications from public libraries and community groups to kickstart or expand innovative and inclusive early reading activities."
