Applications are now open for grants to invest in a future-ready agriculture, fisheries and forestry sector.
Assistant Minister for Forestry and Fisheries Jonno Duniam is encouraging young researchers, scientists and innovators in agriculture, fisheries and forestry to apply for the 2022 Science and Innovation Awards grant program.
"Australia has a long and proud history of innovation across the fisheries and forestry sectors, and this program invites our young people to find solutions for current industry challenges," Assistant Minister Duniam said.
"It's about rewarding people who are passionate about fisheries and forestry, and offering them the opportunity to realise a project that could benefit these sectors.
"The grants are open to anyone who is working, employed or studying in an agricultural, fisheries or forestry-related sector.
"There are 12 categories of specialised industry awards, which are supported by our partners.
"Projects from previous winners have been as diverse as using artificial intelligence to assess abalone size, developing drone capability for sampling the tree canopy, understanding oyster health to build a stronger industry, and using root-colonising bacteria to boost the growth rate of blue gum eucalyptus cuttings.
"This is a chance for the young people in our industries to step in and make a difference.
"More importantly, as projects become a reality, this is an opportunity for a good idea to benefit an entire sector."
