The Crisafulli Government is delivering on a key election commitment and a plan for Queensland's future, with the approval of a Ministerial Infrastructure Designation for the new Gracemere Secondary School.
Construction tenders are now open for the project, which will be delivered in two stages and, once complete, will accommodate up to 1500 students and 120 staff to support the growing community.
Stage one will provide facilities for Years 7 and 8, with the second stage expanding the campus to a full Year 7-12 school.
The high school will be built on government-owned land on the corner of Johnson Road and Lucas Street, and construction is scheduled to begin on site in mid-2026.
The former Labor Government ignored the Gracemere communities calls for a new high school, during their decade of decline, despite the population growing by almost 25 percent.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for Queensland kids, with a $1.09 billion investment to deliver 15 new schools in Queensland's fastest-growing communities, including the new high school in Gracemere.
Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the high school will deliver on a key election commitment, while supercharging the delivery of school infrastructure for the next generation of regional Queenslanders.
"We promised a new high school in Gracemere and we're delivering it," Minister Langbroek said. "All Queenslanders deserve access to a world-class education system, and this new high school is part of our plan to ensure Queensland students, no matter where they live, benefit from modern education facilities.
"We've already committed $10 million to start early site works, produce detailed costings and deliver a master plan for the project, which is creating jobs in the regions and boosting our economy.
"The Crisafulli Government is delivering 15 new schools in our record $21.9 billion Education Budget, including new primary schools in Caloundra South and Ripley Valley, and six special schools to provide choice to parents and help all students reach their potential.
"From Cairns to Coomera, we're delivering the infrastructure needed to meet the needs of growing school communities across Queensland."
Member for Rockhampton Donna Kirkland said the Crisafulli Government was delivering for the Gracemere community after a relentless 20-year fight for their first secondary school.
"The Crisafulli Government is reversing Labor's decade of decline through desperately needed investment supporting the local community who was overlooked for too long," Ms Kirkland said.
"For families in Gracemere and across our community, this new school will mean greater choice, better facilities, and educational opportunities that reflect the needs of a growing region.
"Investing in new schools like this is about investing in our future. It's a clear sign that our region matters and that the Government is serious about delivering the best for our students, our teachers and our communities.
"I want to thank the Deputy Premier for listening to our community and formally approving this critical new school infrastructure in Rockhampton."
