From September 2026 to January 2027, Collingwood Leisure Centre (CLC) will undergo a major electrification upgrade, transitioning from gas heating to an all-electric facility. CLC will be one of the first leisure centres in Australia to retrofit its operations from gas to electricity.
This upgrade will reduce emissions by approximately 304 tonnes each year, improve energy efficiency, and support net-zero emissions through 100% renewable electricity supplied via the grid.
The works will also enhance cooling and dehumidification in the pool and spa hall, significantly improving comfort, safety and air quality for members, visitors and staff—particularly during extreme heat events.
The works will include:
Replacing gas boilers with efficient electric heat pumps
Introducing cooling into the pool hall
Upgrading the air handling system to decrease humidity in the pool hall
Installing a heat recovery system in the change rooms.
To make this exciting change, the pool hall, main entrance and reception will be closed for approximately 4 months.
The gym and group fitness will still be open and operating as usual.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Collingwood Leisure Centre pool hall in early 2027 but in the meantime, come and try our other centres.
Please keep an eye on our website for updates and progress.
Please note, the new times for Learn to Swim classes at Richmond Recreation Centre and Fitzroy Swimming Pool will be available to book from Monday, 24th August.
