Greenhill Recreation Reserve election commitment

A much-needed upgrade of Greenhill Recreation Reserve's lower oval is a step closer with Federal Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell committing $515,000 for oval upgrades if re-elected as part of a Labor Federal Government.

Mr Mitchell was in Wallan on Wednesday 11 May to announce the commitment that will go towards the lower oval project.

The project will include levelling, shaping, drainage and irrigation upgrades, and the installation of a perimeter fence.

This will increase the carrying capacity and quality of the very heavily used sportsground.

It will also assist clubs with scheduling and participation opportunities including senior competition to be played on the lower oval

Greenhill Recreation Reserve and the Wallan Secondary College provide the only ovals currently serving the rapidly expanding Wallan and Beveridge growth areas.

The Reserve is home to Mitchell's largest cricket club, largest junior and second largest Australian rules clubs, with post-COVID participation numbers of more than 600, including 362 junior participants.

More than 120 of these have resulted from successful programs to encourage women and girls to play both sports.
