Works to construct a new roundabout to improve safety at the intersection of Ring Road and Gregory Street West will begin within the next week.
The $1.1 million works are being funded with $565,000 of Federal Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program funding and $535,000 of City of Ballarat funding.
The works will be delivered by Ballarat-based construction firm Fulton Hogan and include construction of a roundabout to replace the existing cross-road.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of May.
The Ring Road and Gregory Street West intersection will remain open during the construction, however motorists travelling along Ballarat Link Road will be unable to enter Ring Road, with detours in place.
City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Des Hudson said the works will deliver better and safer roads for motorists.
"This important upgrade is designed to build safer travel connections for motorists between Gillies Street to Link Road," he said.
"As Ballarat continues to grow, we need to be able to accommodate the transport needs of our growing region both now and into the future."
Construction of another roundabout at the intersection of Navigators Road, Eureka Street and Warrenheip Road is expected to be completed by mid-March.
The works, being completed by Fulton Hogan, are designed to improve safety at the intersection.
The works are being funded with $766,452 from the Federal Government's Roads to Recovery program as well as $323,000 from the City of Ballarat's 2022/2023 budget.
