Guns, crossbow, explosive devices seized; man charged - Northern Tablelands

A man will appear in court today after semi-automatic rifles, a crossbow and explosive devices were seized at a property in the state's Northern Tablelands yesterday.

About 12.20pm (Friday 20 March 2020), officers from the New England Target Action Group and New England Criminal Investigation executed a search warrant of a property on Railway Street, Glencoe.

During the search, police seized a number of items, including two semi-automatic rifles, a crossbow with arrows, silencers, ammunition, an explosive and detonators, slingshots and cannabis leaf.

A 38-year-old man was arrested at the property and taken to Armidale Police Station, where he was charged with a number of offences, including:

• Possess/use prohibited weapon without permit

• Possess unauthorised prohibited firearm

• Possess unregistered prohibited firearm

• Not keep safe (prohibited weapon)

• Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit

• Possess explosive for unlawful purpose

• Handle explosive without authorising licence

• Possess prohibited drug

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Armidale Local Court today (Saturday 21 March 2020).
