CFA responded to reports of a shed fire on Leura Lane in Hamilton at around 3.55pm on 13 December.
12 CFA units from Hamilton, Warrnambool, North Hamilton, Grange, Strathkellar, Tarrington and Bainbridge brigades attended. Victoria Police and paramedics were also on scene.
Crews arrived on scene to find a four-bay shed fully involved by fire.
The shed was approximately 20m x 10m in size.
Firefighters commenced an external fire attack and had suppressed the main fire by 4.41pm.
Crews in breathing apparatus began blacking out and mopping up just before 4.45pm.
Breathing apparatus crews completed mopping up and the scene was declared safe by 6pm.
Four vehicles, including a boat, were destroyed in the fire. Crews saved two vehicles that were outside the shed.
The fire was determined to have been started by sparks from a grinder.
This is a timely reminder to exercise extreme caution when grinding, welding, slashing or mowing on your property.
Ensure a fire-resistant shield or guard is in place to stop sparks or hot metal and leave 1.5 metres of space clear of flammable material - or wet it down sufficialy to prevent the spread of fire.
