Happy campers return as foreshore camping reopens after storm

The foreshore camping season finally kicked off on 26 November with the reopening of Sorrento and Rye campgrounds.

We have been working determinedly to reopen sections of the foreshore campgrounds since the severe storm that lashed the Mornington Peninsula on Friday 29 October.

Tree inspections through the Rosebud and McCrae campgrounds have been completed. Our teams will now finish clean up works and undertake final checks on the facilities and infrastructure. The campgrounds will reopen on a staged basis over the next two weeks:

· McCrae sections 5,6 and 7 will open Wednesday 8 December

· Rosebud sections 10A, 11 and 12 will open Friday 10 December

· All other sections 4,9,10B,13 and 14 will open Monday 13 December.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh:

"Our number one priority when reopening the campgrounds is safety. We have managed to complete clean up and tree inspections sooner than what we initially had estimated, and we are thrilled to welcome back many happy campers!

"It's great to see camping back open in Sorrento and Rye. I can't wait for Rosebud and McCrae to follow soon!"
