- Harvey Senior Citizens Centre upgrades complete
- Project provides a fit-for-purpose hub for seniors in the Harvey district
- Cook Government contribution of $610,000 towards the project
A revitalised senior citizen centre is providing a vibrant community hub for Harvey and surrounding areas.
The Cook Government has contributed $610,000 towards the Harvey Senior Citizens Centre, now known as the Harvey Connect, led by the Shire of Harvey.
Harvey Connect provides a meeting place for people aged over 65 within the Harvey district.
With more than 300 current members, the space is activated every week with a range of social and wellbeing activities.
The building upgrades and new accessible toilets ensure the centre is compliant with modern accessibility standards, making it a welcoming space for people of all abilities.
The addition of a functional clinic room is supporting the delivery of visiting health and community services within Harvey, reducing the need for seniors to travel long distances for basic care.
The inclusion of a dedicated administration office allows for better co-ordination of programs, volunteers and service delivery through the centre.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson:
"The Cook Government recognises the importance of quality regional infrastructure which allows senior residents to have strong community connections.
"These upgrades will help meet the current and future needs of the Harvey seniors' population.
"Congratulations to the Shire of Harvey and the Harvey Senior Citizens Centre committee for delivering this important initiative of providing a welcoming and accessible space for our seniors."
As stated by Aged Care and Seniors Minister Simone McGurk:
"The centre revitalisation provides significant benefits by enhancing community wellbeing and strengthening support services for seniors in the community.
"The addition of a functional clinic room will also ensure seniors do not have to travel long distances for health and community service appointments.
"We want to support our older Western Australians to live their best life as they age and providing infrastructure that promotes wellbeing and connection will do this."
As stated by South West Minister Don Punch:
"Seniors in WA want to live a happy life filled with purpose, meaning and connection. The State Government is committed to honouring this and building communities that are inclusive and supportive of all Western Australians including seniors.
"Upgrading the Harvey Senior Citizens Centre will help ensure those who use the facility are not only provided with the support they need but a place where they can make meaningful connections."
