Victoria is renewing the current urban water restriction by-laws before they expire from the end of the year.
Urban water restrictions limit how and when drinking (or potable) water can be used outdoors for activities, including watering gardens, lawns, parks and sporting grounds, car washing, filling and topping up swimming pools and spas, and outdoor cleaning and construction.
In the lead up to renewing the by-laws, we've been listening to the water industry and key stakeholders and propose keeping the current by-laws with only two changes to encourage:
- water efficient home and commercial swimming pool top ups
- use of alternative water sources for dust suppression activities.
We're encouraging all water users, including residential and commercial pool owners, councils, businesses and the construction and roads industry, to have their say during the consultation stage.
You can have your say on renewing Victoria's urban water restriction by-laws by visiting the Engage Vic website between now and 9 November to complete the survey or make a submission.
After receiving your feedback, the Minister for Water will finalise and issue the Model Water Restriction By-law to all Victorian urban water corporations by December 2021.
The Victorian urban water corporations will use the Model Water Restriction By-law to renew their expiring by-laws.
