Havilah Place's Timelapse Transformation

Havilah Place nursing home

Kiama Council has released timelapse photography that reveals the extensive work which went into demolition of the original Blue Haven Terralong nursing home at 2 Havilah Place.

Contractors spent several months carefully dismantling the structures adjacent to Kiama Leisure Centre.

Council's Director Infrastructure and Operations Darren Brady said the demolition process went smoothly.

"Council sincerely thanks the Blue Haven Terralong residents for their patience during the demolition process," he said.

"This timelapse provides a really great digital memento on the public record of the rehabilitation of the site."

The nursing home, which was vacated in 2019, had become unsafe due to mould, vandalism and structural damage.

Due to the ongoing costs to secure and maintain the building (including fences, patrols, emergency call-outs), Council last year held an open competitive tender process before appointing experienced demolition company TCE Contracting to remove the buildings and clear the site.

No decisions have been made about the long-term use of the site, but clearing it allows Council to consider a range of future possibilities.

The Havilah Place facility opened in 1979 with a 40-bed nursing home and 28-bed hostel.
