Hazard reduction burn in Mimosa Rocks National Park 20 March

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is planning a hazard reduction burn at Kings Ridge West in Mimosa Rocks National Park from Monday 20 March, weather permitting.

Staff from Metro South West and Blue Mountains regions undertaking the Pisgah Ridge Hazard Reduction burn, near Glenbrook in the Blue Mountains National Park.

The burn will treat approximately 92 hectares of bushland and will reduce the fuel load in the park, improving protection for properties in the Tathra and Bega area.

Kings Ridge Fire Trail will be closed for the duration of the burn, and Quarry Road and Goats Knob Road may also be impacted by closure on the day, depending on wind conditions.

Tracks and trails will be reopened once the area is assessed as safe.

Smoke may be visible in the national park and from surrounding areas, including Tathra, Tanja, Reedy Swamp and Dr George Mountain.

Motorists should use caution when driving on Dr George Mountain Road and Tathra Bermagui Road.

People vulnerable to smoke are encouraged to remain indoors and keep their doors and windows closed to reduce exposure.

Hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect parks, neighbours and communities from future bushfires.

This burn is one of many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS across NSW each year, many with assistance from the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.

All burns around the state will continue being coordinated with the NSW RFS to ensure the impact on the community is assessed at a regional level.
