Hazard reduction burns

Lake Macquarie City Council

Fire and Rescue NSW will be carrying out a hazard reduction burn at Glendale TAFE on Frederick Street, Glendale, on Saturday 10 December from 8am-8pm, weather permitting.

NSW Rural Fire Service will be carrying out a hazard reduction burn on 38 hectares of private property along Becks Road, Freemans Waterhole. The burn will commence 9am, to be completed by 5pm Saturday 10 December.

Residents near the burns should:

  • Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from entering homes and keep outdoors furniture under cover to prevent ember burns.
  • Ensure pets have a protected area, retract pool covers to prevent ember damage and remove washing from clotheslines.
  • If you are driving a vehicle, slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on.
  • If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice.

If weather conditions become unfavourable, the burn will be rescheduled.
