Residents in Cardinia Shire will soon be invited to take part in a Household Liveability Survey, to help inform and monitor efforts to create a more liveable community.
Six thousand households have been randomly selected to participate in the survey, to ensure representation of urban and rural areas and a variety of household types. Responses will be anonymous.
Monitoring progress of the Cardinia Shire's Liveability Plan is a requirement of the Victorian Government under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.
Cardinia Shire Council is conducting the survey from 8 May to 8 June, to monitor the progress towards long-term goals of Cardinia Shire's Liveability Plan 2017 – 2029:
- Improve mental health and wellbeing
- Improve social cohesion
- Improve safety
- Improve healthy eating and active living
- Reduce family violence
- Improve financial wellbeing and resilience
- Reduce harm from alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and gambling.
The long-term goals of the Liveability Plan are not things that Council can change or influence alone. Council works in partnership with other local agencies, businesses and community groups and advocates to other levels of government to address health and social challenges in the shire. The results of this survey will be shared with partner agencies to help inform their work, as well as informing Council's future advocacy efforts.
"The vision of the Liveability Plan is a liveable, resilient community where the environment flourishes and residents are healthy, included and connected," said Cardinia Shire Mayor, Councillor Brett Owen.
"We regularly track research and publicly available data to monitor how the community is going – but real insight and value will come when we hear from the community. It will add richness to our understanding of how the different communities within Cardinia Shire are going and allow us to prioritise efforts to improve liveability across Cardinia Shire," said Councillor Owen.
