Help make Glengala Village a vibrant and welcoming place for all

Have your say on how to create a more vibrant and liveable 20-minute neighbourhood in Glengala Village, West Sunshine.

The 20-minute neighbourhood project is all about 'living locally' - giving people the ability to meet most of their daily needs within a 20-minute walk from home, with access to safe cycling and local transport options.

We have developed a plan for temporary activations for Glengala Village which is available to view online.

Brimbank Mayor, Cr Georgina Papafotiou said Council is keen to work with the community to create a 20-minute neighbourhood concept, by creating safer pedestrian spaces and more inviting streetscapes within Glengala Road village and the surrounding area.

'The residents of West Sunshine have told us they want more greening of streets, more creative spaces and a safer environment with slower and safer traffic flow for pedestrians.

'We have responded by developing a plan of temporary activation projects to test some ideas. We are also looking for ways to increase space for pedestrians in line with the 1.5m physical distancing requirements to COVID-19.

'We are inviting residents, traders and the local schools to submit a pattern for the road that will add more colour, vibrancy and creativity to the area.

'This is a wonderful opportunity to stamp your mark on your local neighbourhood, and create temporary street art to brighten up your local shopping strip.

'Don't miss this opportunity to take a look at the concept plan for the temporary projects and let us know what you think – your input is important to Council and will help us make sure we deliver a 20-minute neighbourhood that we can all be proud of,' Cr Papafotiou said.

The proposed upgrade will include large pot plants and landscaping to soften the streetscape, extra space for street trading and dining, creative traffic calming treatments with engaging patterns on the roads, and potential co-working and meeting spaces.

After the consultation period, Council will review feedback to inform the final designs for the temporary activation projects.

The temporary activation projects are planned to start happening in late 2020 so they can be enjoyed in the warmer months.
