The City of Ballarat is seeking community feedback to help determine the best location for a new public toilet on the southern shoreline of Lake Wendouree.
The new facility will replace the former underground toilet near Loreto College, which was removed due to safety, accessibility and compliance concerns.
This project is part of the City of Ballarat's Public Toilet Strategy and supports the Lake Wendouree Master Plan by improving access and enhancing the visitor experience around the lake.
Community feedback is now invited to help choose between two proposed suitable locations at St Patrick's Point or opposite Loreto College on the foreshore.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves encouraged the community to join the conversation on the two possible locations.
"Lake Wendouree is one of Ballarat's most loved destinations, and we want to make sure the new toilet is in the right location and designed with the community in mind," she said.
"This new toilet will reduce the distance between facilities in a location that's well used by walkers, school groups and community events.
"It will be designed using universal design principles to ensure it's safe, accessible and welcoming for everyone."
Both locations will be subject to cultural and heritage requirements, including consultation with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation and Heritage Victoria.
Final decisions will also be dependent on planning processes, statutory approvals and budget.
The City of Ballarat will also hold a series of community pop-ups to provide additional information and answer questions on:
- Monday 10 November, 2pm-5pm, at St Patrick's Point
- Wednesday 12 November, 7am-9am, opposite Loreto College
- Saturday 15 November, 7.30am-10am, at St Patrick's Point and
- Sunday 30 November, 9am-12pm, at SpringFest.
