Her Way Program Making Bayside Safer

Bayside Council is one of ten Councils selected by Transport for NSW to participate in the Safer Cities: Her Way Program and will receive a $1 million grant to improve safety for women and children around transport hubs.

"This is an exciting program that will help increase safety around our public spaces and transport hubs," Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.

"Bayside was chosen because of our diverse community and Council's experience in undertaking community consultation in such a multicultural environment.

The Safer Cities: Her Way program is part of the NSW Government's $30 million coordinated approach to improving safety for women and girls in public spaces and transport hubs.

Council will now start work on an extensive engagement program to ensure that the projects developed as part of this initiative have the support of the community.

It is expected that any projects will be driven by ideas and solutions "co-designed" by women and girls during the community engagement process.

While it is hard to predict the outcome of this project it is expected to lead to better lighting and improved safety enhancements around public spaces and transport hubs in Bayside.

Under the terms of the grant the program must be completed by June 2024.
